Labeled “The Great Edifier”, Greg Norte describes his style of leadership simply as “The ability to identify and develop the greatness in others.”  For over ten years and in a variety of venues ranging from classrooms to deep woods to the rigging of the United States’ tall ship, EAGLE, Greg has trained hundreds of eager audiences his unique brand of servant-leadership.  With his energetic attitude and dedication to team success, he will get your life and your business back on course.

At the age of fourteen, Greg learned the personal value of education.  Having the opportunity, but not the finances, to attend a local private high school, Greg competed for and was granted a full work scholarship tuition to attend his school of choice.  When asked how he felt about working summers and weekends in order to go to high school, Greg was grateful for the experience.  “Because I worked for it, my education had a real personal value to me.  I actually studied harder at school because I knew what I had to put in to be there.”  In addition to his scholarship requirements, Greg’s first exposure to teaching was through leading several student retreats at his high school.

Greg’s initial leadership experience was through the Boy Scouts of America.  As a senior patrol leader and then as an Eagle Scout at age of 16, Greg was responsible for the well being and training of over 20 junior Boy Scouts.  Though his troop was often the smallest, he and his fellow scouts often received the “most spirited” award from scout camps they attended because of their great attitude and ability to accomplish tasks better than larger troops.

Immediately upon graduating from high school, Greg was accepted to both the United States Coast Guard Academy and the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.  Greg chose the Coast Guard Academy for one reason: the mission.  “My grandfather was a Marine and my father was in the Navy, so I have the highest respect for Annapolis.  However, when it came down to what I wanted to do in my life, I was more interested in saving lives than taking them.  I knew the Coast Guard was a better fit for me.”  While at the Academy, Greg noticed a need for the same type of personal development events that he had led during high school.  With the help of the Academy’s chaplain office, Greg organized the cadet corps and established a weekend retreat program that is still in use at the Academy to this day

Greg’s introduction to sailing was also at the Academy.  His summers were spent on a wide variety of sailing craft, from dinghies, to cruising sailboats and the Coast Guard Barque EAGLE.  The military training held on the EAGLE emphasized teamwork and effective leadership under pressure.  Greg immediately fell in love with the tall ship, volunteered and was selected to be part of an elite group of cadet-trainers onboard the vessel.

After graduating from the Coast Guard Academy, Greg was commissioned as an officer in the United States Coast Guard and assigned to Coast Guard Cutter VENTUROUS out of St. Petersburg, FL.  He was on patrol off the coast of Haiti on the morning of September 11th, 2001.  In the events that followed that tragic day, Greg commanded teams on “Search and Escort” missions for freighters entering US ports and served as the head of the ship’s intelligence team.  His work in intelligence earned him praise from the Coast Guard Atlantic Fleet Commander’s intelligence staff and a new assignment: to help set up the Pacific Fleet Commander’s new Maritime Intelligence Fusion Center watch team.  After setting up the new watch and receiving several awards for his team’s notable work in thwarting illegal smuggling and terrorism, Greg was assigned to full time counterterrorism intelligence work.

When he wasn’t working for the Coast Guard, Greg spent his time on his two main passions: his wife, Tiffany and teaching what he had learned.  By leading personal development retreats and requesting the additional duties of training officer at his varied command postings, Greg continued to reach out and share his expertise with others.

After completing his final assignment for the Coast Guard and receiving an honorable discharge, Greg began working with other organizations that taught people how to achieve their own personal potential and appeared before thousands of people in audiences across the country.  Rapidly rising through the ranks of teaching organizations, Greg quickly discovered that he had his own message and decided to propose an alliance with other like-minded individuals.  Even the sailing programs were a joint venture, as Tiffany’s love of sailing kept Greg involved in the sport and introduced him to the right people to help realize his dream.

Greg continues to stay on the cutting edge of new leadership technologies.  He is often found at many other organizations’ events, supporting the staff from the back of the room or learning as a student himself.  Greg believes that leadership is a journey, not a destination and his dedication to improving the lives of others continues to drive him forward in life.
